International Environmental Issues

Certain global environmental issues, such as global warming and biodiversity, spill over national borders and will need to be addressed with some form of international agreement.

International law intersects with issues relating to the environment, health, science, and technology in a variety of ways. A growing number of multilateral international conventions address issues that touch on many or all of these topics. International and regional organizations are joining domestic governments in tackling these issues, which often encompass trans-border phenomena, such as climate change, natural resource exploitation, the Internet, privacy and data encryption, cyber security and crime, maritime border issues, and sustainable development.

The tools available in GlobaLex will continue to expand to cover international law topics, countries and legal systems thus providing a coherent and encompassing research tool for all constituencies.

The site maintains a species database, searchable by country, that has distribution, status, photos and references to the literature.

Lots of information, organized by issue. the region you are interested in. This is the Untied Nation's flagship Environmental environmental assessment.GEO-6 is the most current.

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) is the United Nations body for assessing the science related to climate change.

From the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources, this database provides taxonomic, conservation status and distribution information on all kinds of species. NOTE: Read the introduction for what is and is NOT included in the database.
To search by country, select "Advanced" then use the search filters (on the left) to select "Land Regions" then choose the appropriate region to see a list of countries. Select the appropriate region and a list of countries will appear. Click on a country to see the IUCN list.

Focus is on illegal trade however the linked publications often have species information. Search for: birds, fish, invertebrates, mammals, plants, reptiles and amphibians.
