Through our travel and research grants and scholarships, we help promote the professional development of the next generation of Earth and space scientists and enable the next era of scientific discoveries. These programs provide the opportunity for scientists to participate in career-building activities early in their careers.

APPLICATIONS: Students must contact the individual site or program to apply. NSF does not have application materials and does not select student participants.
ELIGIBILITY: Individual sites may have additional eligibility requirements (e.g., number of undergraduate years completed). Undergraduate student participants supported with NSF funds must be citizens or permanent residents of the United States or its possessions. High school graduates who have not yet enrolled, and students who have already received their bachelor's degrees, are not eligible.

ORISE connects the most talented and diverse college students, recent graduates, postdocs, and faculty to STEM internship and fellowship programs closely aligned with the interests of a variety of research facilities, including those managed for the U.S. Department of Energy and more than a dozen other federal agencies. These STEM internship and fellowship programs are key to the recruitment and preparation of the next generation of our nation’s scientific workforce.

The Student Conservation Association is the largest provider of hands-on environmental conservation programs for youth and young adults. Program participants protect and restore national parks, marine sanctuaries, cultural landmarks and community green spaces across the country. The SCA is devoted to building equitable access to nature, providing green job opportunities for young people and teaching members how to become environmental stewards.

Women in Science Discovering Our Mojave (WISDOM) is an MDLT internship program in collaboration with the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) that seeks to help engage women from underserved communities studying Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM).
The WISDOM program fosters an environment of mentorship and career exploration by connecting female students with researchers and professionals, helping to develop the next generation of public lands managers and stewards. WISDOM aims to utilize more student derived data in management decisions in alignment with Citizen Scientist initiatives, in order to increase public engagement in land management. The long-term goal of WISDOM is to increase understanding of not only environmental science and land management issues in the Mojave Desert, but to also provide women with opportunities to conduct that research. This program is also a way for interns to build their professional career networks and can be used to help support graduate school applications.

The Workforce Recruitment Program (WRP) is a recruitment and referral program that connects federal and private-sector employers nationwide with highly motivated college students and recent graduates with disabilities who are eager to demonstrate their abilities in the workplace through summer or permanent jobs.

The goal of the WWF Young Adult volunteer & internship programme is to provide you with a powerful, hands-on experience of the unique challenges that developing nations face in protecting their environment and assets. The WWF Young Adult Volunteer & Intern Programme enables committed and outstanding young people, aged approx 19-27, to have a 3 to 6 month volunteer/internship experience working with WWF in such places as Bolivia, Madagascar, Pacific, the Carpathians and at WWF International.
