Digital Humanities

This title offers a broad survey of cutting-edge intersections between digital technologies & the study of art history, museum practices, & cultural heritage. It focuses not only on new computational tools that have been developed for the study of artworks & their histories, but also debates the disciplinary opportunities & challenges that have emerged in response to the use of digital resources & methodologies. Chapters cover a wide range of technical & conceptual themes that define the current state of the field & outline strategies for future development. It offers a timely perspective on trans-disciplinary developments that are reshaping art historical research, conservation, & teaching. It will be of interest to scholars in art history, historical theory, method & historiography, & research methods in education.

The Digital Age has revolutionized economy, society & our private lives. For decades now, digitalization has also touched most branches of the humanities. With the rising importance of the so called Digital Humanities, Art History is at the brink of new ways of accessing its material & gaining unprecedented insights. Many approaches are currently evolving in the international sphere of Art History & many questions still remain unanswered: What requirements does Art History have towards Information Technology? What projects do exist that can serve as best practice? Which direction does Art History go from here? How can we build an international community to reach our shared goals in research?

It is a peer-reviewed, open-access e-journal dedicated to advancing teaching & learning in art history. It provides a forum for scholarly discourse that articulates and presents the range of pedagogical methods for learners in formal, informal, & virtual learning environments. It embraces multiple research models that examine the effectiveness of instructional strategies & technologies that build the skills, theories, concepts, & values necessary to art historical practice. It fosters exchange between art history & allied fields including art & museum education, studio art & design, visual & material culture, & the digital humanities by considering the role of technology & the material object to enhance understanding & intellectual development.

An open-access, peer-reviewed, digital journal covering all aspects of digital media in the humanities. It is a community experiment in journal publication, with a commitment to: experimenting with publication formats & the rhetoric of digital authoring co-publishing articles with Literary & Linguistic Computing (a well-established print digital humanities journal) in ways that straddle the print/digital divide using open standards to deliver journal content developing translation services & multilingual reviewing in keeping with the strongly international character of ADHO. It publishes a wide range of peer-reviewed materials, including: scholarly articles, case studies, & field reports, editorials & provocative opinion pieces, experiments in interactive media, reviews of books, web sites, new media art installations, digital humanities systems and tools.

Graphic Provocations: What do digital humanists want from visualization?' 25/05/16

Scholars from across NYU are collaborating with artists & art galleries on innovative digital projects. Projects presented by Glenn Wharton (Museum Studies, NYU), Jonathan Hay (Fine Arts, NYU), Sarah Demott (NYU Libraries), Deena Engel (Computer Science, NYU), and Joanna Phillips (Guggenheim Museum).

Kelly Cannon presentation on 2015.3.26. She is an Associate Educator for Interpretation, Research & Digital Learning in the Department of Education at MoMA, where she collaboratively produces & maintains the Museum’s online courses, & develops multimedia content related to the collection and exhibitions as well as digital humanities approaches for the arts. She researched modern and contemporary photography as well as digital humanities approaches for the arts.

The Institute sponsors and advises collaborative art-historical research & publication projects that facilitate access to & analysis of digitized objects, particularly those in the Institute's collections. The team collaborates on these projects with colleagues from across the Getty & with experts in software development, user research, semantic engineering, & digital publications. Critical to these projects is the development of innovative working methods & technological tools that can be adopted by the broader art-historical & cultural heritage communities.
