Sac State's Center for Teaching and Learning coordinates campus-wide OER efforts. Contact Andrea Terry for more information. CTL can help faculty achieve the following goals:
- Allow faculty, staff and students easy access to find low-cost or free textbooks and course content.
- Recognize the efforts of faculty to reduce costs for students.
- Share and learn from other CSU faculty about OER and AL$ efforts.
Finding OER Textbooks
There are several resources to help faculty find evaluated OER textbooks to use in their classes:
- Course Books Available at the Sac State University Library
- Cool4Ed: Easy access to quality FREE and OPEN eTextbooks.
- Directory of Open Access Journals: Access to journals and articles in 89 languages and from 138 countries. Currently there are over 11 million indexed articles.
- HathiTrust Digital Library: Only the records with "Full View" are full text available, which are public domain and open access titles.
- Internet Archive: Open Educational Resources: Free courses, video lectures, and supplemental materials from universities in the United States and China.
- LibreText hosts curated Open Educational Resources from all 16 libraries in the LibreVerse in one convenient location.
- MERLOT: MERLOT's Open Textbook Initiative (CSU).
- OER by Subject: Humbolt State Research Guide: OER organized by department.
- OER Commons: A dynamic digital library of open education resources and a network of educators dedicated to curriculum improvement.
- Open Education Consortium: A global network of educational institutions, individuals and organizations that support OER.
- Open Textbook Library Open textbooks are licensed by authors and publishers to be freely used and adapted. Download, edit and distribute them at no cost.
- Openstax: A nonprofit organization committed to improving student access to quality learning materials.
- Pressbooks: a free, searchable catalog that includes 8,047 open access books published by 198 organizations and networks using Pressbooks. It's easy to copy, revise, remix, and redistribute any openly licensed content found here using Pressbooks' publishing platform. Nearly all books are highly accessible, and many include interactive H5P learning activities to engage learners.
