LibGuides Accessibility: Best Practices

Fonts and Formatting Text

Avoid using the font settings in the rich text editor, as these settings can produce non-compliant results, especially when font size is adjusted (i.e., do not use Font and Size options on the rich text editor). If you have guides where you think these have been used, you can simply copy the text and select the Tx icon to remove formatting.

If you would like to format content in a box, use structured headings and simple formatting for compliant content. Structured headings can be found under the Normal drop-down menu in the rich text editor.

Font Color

If changing the color of text, keep the number of colors minimal on the page. When changing the color, use a contrast checker (linked below) to ensure the text color and the background color have an appropriate contrast level. Contrast levels are detailed in the contrast checker.

Cutting & Pasting from External Text Editors

Do not copy text from MS Word or any other applications directly into the rich text field. It adds bad code that can distort the display.

If you want to copy-and-paste content into LibGuides, paste the content first into Notepad. From there, you can copy-and-paste content into the LibGuides Text Editor. Once your text is pasted into the text editor, click Source to make sure things look as you intended and no extraneous code was added.
