Tips for Searching a Database
This infographic provides search tips that work in databases ranging from Google to the majority of library databases, including Boolean operators (AND, OR, NOT), nesting like terms with parentheses, truncation, and wildcards.

Assessments

Students are prompted to do the following exercises in the second tutorial, Developing your Research Topic & Finding Sources, though they are not required to complete them to finish the tutorial. Online Concept Map
Students can input their keywords into this interactive concept map. To save their map & upload to Canvas, direct students to select Print your Map and Save to PDF.
Strategic Searching as Exploration: Google Form
This Google Form requires students to apply the keywords from their concept map by searching for sources in Academic Search Complete, a multi-disciplinary library database. Students can input their email to receive a copy of their completed form, which you can have students upload to Canvas for credit.
Boolean Search String Builder
Students can enter keywords from their concept map and select Boolean operators AND and OR (or a combination thereof) to build a search string. Students can take a screenshot of their search string.
