Sacramento: Sources for Government, Statistics, and Local Information

Is an association of local governments in the six-county Sacramento Region. Its members include the counties of El Dorado, Placer, Sacramento, Sutter, Yolo and Yuba as well as the 22 cities.
Provides transportation planning and funding for the region, and serves as a forum for the study and resolution of regional issues.

Overall mission is to achieve clean air goals by leading the region in protecting public health & the environment through innovative & effective programs, dedicated staff, community involvement, & public education. AQMD's work involves interaction with local, state and federal government agencies, the business community, environmental groups, & private citizens.

Is a countywide commission, required in each California county. Goals: Ensure the orderly formation of local governmental agencies, preserve agricultural & open space lands, & discourage sprawl.

To reduce flood risk, thereby minimizing the impacts of floods on human safety, health, and welfare; and, consistent with these flood risk reduction goals, to preserve and enhance the environmental and aesthetic values that floodways and floodplains contribute to the quality of life in the Sacramento region.
