The permalink placed in Canvas will take you to a screen from which there may be one or more options to open and read the full-text of an article, similar to the image below.
Generally:
Step 1: If the record includes a Get PDF link, clicking that will take you directly to the PDF full text.
More often you will select a link/database name listed under Available Online. You only need to click one!

EBSCO Databases
Step 1: Select the link Full text available at: EBSCOhost[databasename]
Step 2: Select the PDF icon on the left side of the screen to open the article
Project Muse
Step 1: Select the link Full text available at: ProjectMuse{database]
Step 2: View, download or Save the article
JSTOR
Step 1: Select the link Full text available at: JSTOR[database]
Step 2: To read the article download the PDF
