In its effort to enhance access to knowledge and information, since the Fall 2009 semester, Sacramento State has required graduate students, who have a departmentally approved Thesis/Project/Dissertation, to submit it electronically on ScholarWorks. Communities of scholarly work, including theses, projects and dissertations, are discoverable and available full-text via the Library’s OneSearch. Descriptive information about deposited works also is made available to Google Scholar and other services.

What is ScholarWorks?

California State University (CSU) ScholarWorks is a digital collection that captures, manages, and disseminates the scholarly materials of the CSU community. Currently nearly all of the CSU libraries have implemented a ScholarWorks site. These institutional repositories position the CSU to provide viable alternatives to members of the CSU community to manage their scholarly output.

Submitting Your Electronic Thesis/Dissertation

Once your manuscript has been approved by the Office of Graduate Studies, you may submit your electronic thesis/project/dissertation (ETD) into ScholarWorks. Information is available here (PDF) and in the slideshow below. You may submit your ETD on your own and you may use any campus computer lab.

If you need assistance, you may make an appointment via email (preferred): or by phone:  916-278-4338.  You can also contact us at or 278-5656 during business hours.

Q: I submitted my print thesis/project/dissertation prior to Fall 2009. Can you digitize and add it to ScholarWorks?

A: Yes. Please fill out the online ScholarWorks Submission Authorization form. Upon receiving your online form, the Library will work on digitizing your print thesis/project/dissertation. Then, we'll add it to ScholarWorks. If you have any questions regarding the form or the process, please contact Elyse Fox.

Q: Can I bind my print manuscript?

A: You can order a bound copy of your thesis/project/dissertation through our bindery vendor’s service, Thesis on Demand. There, you'll be able to select your cover, printing, and paper options.
