Welcome

This guide will help you find critical reviews and information about commercially published tests.  It will also help to find freely available unpublished tests in the CSUS Library and online.

First ask yourself

What is my goal?

To find a published, validated test in the CSUS Library's Sample Test Collection?

To find an unpublished, experimental test or questionnaire that can be used without purchasing it from a publisher?

To find a critique or review of a published test that is used in practice by therapists, counselors, or psychologists?

Click on the appropriate tab above to get started.

PsycTESTS

  • Produced by the American Psychological Association (APA), this serves as a repository for a growing selection of psychological tests and measures, including thousands of actual test instruments and test items that are available for immediate download and use in research and teaching. Coverage varies.

Three important points to keep in mind:
  • Commercially published, validated tests are protected by copyright and must be purchased from the publisher in order to use or administer them. The Library has a small Sample Test Collection of published tests. See appropriate tab above for instructions on locating these tests. Due to copyright restrictions, Published tests in our Sample Test Collection cannot be copied or taken out of the reference area.

  • Experimental tests, that is, tests that are not commercially published, and not copyrighted, are less restricted and in many cases may be used, revised, administered. Unpublished tests may appear in journal articles and often can be used free of charge. APA retains copyright for tests that appear in any of its journals.

  • It is often easier to locate a test by attribute or trait (racism, anxiety, intelligence) than a specific test by name.
