Creating an EndNote Online Account

EndNote Online is a browser-based version of EndNote that allows you to access your EndNote Library on any device.

If you already have an EndNote Desktop account:
[i.e., you've downloaded EndNote from campus] you can create the online account through your EndNote program. This will allow you to synchronize your EndNote desktop library with EndNote Online.

It is recommended you create a compressed, backup library before you begin the sync process between EndNote Desktop and EndNote Online. To do this, go to File and select Compress Library. Then, to set up EndNote Online and sync the libraries:

  1. Open your EndNote library.
  2. Navigate to the Library tab and select Sync
  3. Follow instructions to create the online account
  4. You will then be able to synchronize your desktop and online accounts.

If you don't have an EndNote Desktop account:
Sac State users can create an EndNote online account through the Web of Knowledge and have free access to EndNote online for as long as you are at Sac State. This means your EndNote Library is entirely cloud-based. Some of the functionality of EndNote Desktop will not be available (e.g. Cite While You Write).

Note: It is important to create an EndNote online account while on campus, through the database Web of Science, instead of through the EndNote website to get all functionality and to be identified as a Sac State-affiliated user.

  1. Go to the Sac State Library Homepage (click the icon on the top right of this guide, or go to https://library.csus.edu)
  2. Select Databases
  3. Select "W" in the Databases By Title alphabetical list
  4. Select Web of Science (Thomson Reuters)
  5. On the top right, select Products and then EndNote from the drop-down list
  6. Select Register and follow instructions to create an account

After creating an account [either method], you can login to EndNote Online.
