What Is Legal Material?

United States law draws upon various sources: the Constitution, statutory law (the body of law derived from statutes), case law (law found in a collection of reported cases that form all or part of a body of law), and administrative law (body of agency made law consisting of administrative rules, regulations, reports, opinions containing findings of facts).  From Black's Law Dictionary, 8th ed., 2004.

State law is a body of law in a particular state consisting of the state's constitution, statutes, regulations, and common law.
From Black's Law Dictionary, 8th ed., 2004.
