  • Brief Notes-Country Reports from the U.S. Dept. of State
    Brief country background information, more for the politics and land than the environment, but if you don't know much about the country this is a good place to start.
  • CIA World Factbook
    Brief descriptions of the geography, people, government, economy, communications, transportation, etc. Good starting point for overview of the country and a very brief list of environmental issues.
  • Country Reports
    A section of Business Source Premier, searchable by country. Detailed country information; under Limit Your Results, select Publication Type then Country Reports.
  • Encyclopedia of Earth
    An electronic reference about the Earth, its natural environments, and their interaction with society. Useful categories for browsing, or search by country.
  • Encyclopedia of the Nations
    For a quick overview.
  • FAO Country Profiles
    Since this is from the Food & Agriculture Organization of the UN, you can guess the focus. Includes detailed statistics on a wide range of topics.Chose a country, then look on the left side of the screen for broad topics including: fisheries, forestry, biodiversity, climate change, food security, diseases, pests, water management and more. Statistics are from a wide range of sources. Currency varies by country.
