Annotated Bibliography: a list of source citations followed by a brief statement about the source. The statement can vary in length from a sentence or two to a paragraph, roughly 150 words.
Arrangement: alphabetically by author, each item includes all basic bibliographic information as is contained in a bibliography or works cited, for example: author, title, edition, place of publication, publisher, date of publication, followed by the annotation. Follow the bibliographic style prescribed, e.g., APA, MLA, Chicago or others.
Annotation: a brief description or explanation of the material, which may include:
- a summary of the main points and content of the source
- an assessment or evaluation on whether it's useful, how it compares to other sources on the topic, reliability/objectivity, etc.
- a reflection on how it fits into your own research
The length of your annotation, level of detail, and whether any or all of these are required depends on your assignment.
