The Association for the Study of Literature and the Environment

  • Considered the premier organization for the development of ecocriticism in the United States   
  • Publishes the Journal ISLE: Interdisicplinary Studies in Literature and Environment.  ISLE is a quarterly journal that was first published in 1993 and is indexed in MLA.  Currently, our Library does not subscribe to it.
  • Organizes a bienniel conference. The next conference will take place in 2015.

European Association for the Study of Literature, Culture, and Environment

  • Encourages academic discourse, as well as communication between the public and the academy, about issues that connect culture and the environment.
  • Publishes the journal Ecozon@
  • Organizes conferences and symposia.

The Journal of Ecocriticism: A New Journal of Nature, Society, and Literature

  • The Journal of Ecocriticism (or JOE) is a peer-reviewed, open access journal that focuses on ecoliterature and ecocriticism. It began in 2009, is  published twice a year by the BC Institute of Governance and Simon Fraser University, and is indexed in MLA. 

Ecozon@

  • Ecozon@ is a peer reviewed, open access journal which explores the web of connections between literature, nature, and the environment.  It is published twice a year by GIECO (Spanish Research Group on Ecocritical Studies) and EASLCE (European Association for the Study of Literature, Culture and the Environment).  It began in 2010 and is indexed in MLA. You need to register to acquire an individual subscription.   

UC Santa Barbara's English Department - Literature and the Environment

  • Literature and the Environment is one of the Department Centers for the English Department at UC Santa Barbara. They offer a range of coursework in ecocriticism; issues are explored from British, American, and global perspectives.
