Wind

Overview

Wind resources vary widely throughout the world.  Often, a prime electricity generating area will be far from the area that could use its electricity the most.  Technologies, such as the Smart Grid, will reduce distribution losses.

Different forms of harnessing useful energy exist, depending on the local environmental requirements, as well as economic and maintenance considerations.  Increasing attention has been given to minimizing the impact to bird life, as often the migratory paths are also the prime areas for harnessing power from the wind.
