Sacramento State Thesis Project or Dissertation

Theses Locations

Please note: Starting spring 2018 all new theses and dissertations are available electronic format only. The information below pertains to practices for when theses were submitted to the library in print.

To find theses, theses projects, and dissertations in print in the Library, type your keywords (topic, authors name, department, etc.) into OneSearch. If searching simply by topic or department, add the word thesis to your search (i.e. business administration thesis). Then, look down the left column, click on Author/Creator to expand the category, then click "California State University, Sacramento."

Theses and dissertations that are in print will say "Available at University Library." Note the call number of any theses of interest (see image below) and head to the floor shown.

General Information on print theses and dissertations

  • The Theses & Dissertation Collection is located on the 3rd Floor south, shelved alphabetically according to author's last name. The Library creates an alpha/numerical call number that represents the author's first and last name.
  • The Library tries to keep two copies of every thesis and dissertation: one hard-bound, paper copy shelved on the 3rd floor south and one microfiche copy, located on the 2nd floor north. Microfiche are arranged by year and author's last name. Additionally, a permanent microfiche copy is also retained by University Archives.
  • Some theses also include media, such as slides or videotape. In OneSearch, these are marked "1 North User Services." Ask for them at the first floor service desk.

Since 2009-2010 academic year, CSU theses have been submitted in digital format and can be found online in full-text at Sac State Scholars.
